Erika and Logan's Wedding Cake

Erika and Logan’s Wedding Cake.  A special thank you to Heidi Barton from Petal Perfect Floral Design for providing the fresh flowers I put on the cake!

I made a new cross-country (as in ACROSS the country) friend.  She found my website through the suggestion of a friend of a friend, or something like that.  Isn’t it amazing how connections work?   When I first got an email from Pennsylvania, I was sure it was a mistake.  But Angela quickly responded and shared her adventure with me.  Her daughter was marrying a boy from Saint George.  They met in Washington State on their missions for the LDS church and wanted to be married in the Salt Lake temple.  So this sweet mother began planning a wedding in a city she was unfamiliar with clear across the country.  What!?  Then she made the trek across the country (roughly 1900 miles or 29 hours of driving!)to finish planning and preparing, and assembling, and arranging for all the food, chairs, tables, flowers, decorations and on and on…..in the few weeks she had before the wedding.  With only two weeks to go she was in definite crunch time!  She made a day trip up from Saint George ( I am NOT kidding.  This mom is dedicated!) to plan the cake, check out a reception site and arrange flowers. Just typing that made me tired.  I do not know how she did it.

The bride, Erika wanted red and purple flowers and an off-set square tiered cake. Heidi from Petal Perfect Floral Design sent me with enough flowers that matched the bride’s bouquet to make the cake darling. I decided last minute to add red ribbon for little more color.  I think it was a good idea.  I also think it was a good idea to not dismiss the first email from Angela.  I am so glad I got to share their happy day with them.  She just sent me a picture of the cake cutting and a sweet email with this sweet note:

“The reception was fantastic and the cake was so beautiful. I know it was the best tasting cake I have ever had and I’ve had a lot from graduations, to funerals and weddings.  I didn’t get a piece until it was clean up time and I took a big glob with my fingers since we had thrown everything away… and it was so good I’ve been craving it ever since. …..Erika and Logan loved it and that’s what really mattered.”

So a Happy Ever After ending,  a new friend in Pennsylvania (the first person I know there! Does that make it obvious I don’t travel much?), and a shining review of the wedding cake?  That’s having your cake AND eating it too!  No.  Really.  It is.  Thanks again to Erika and Logan and Erika’s SUPERMOM Angela!
